Giving your career to God is a major undertaking. Nobody says it is easy; many pastors are “on-call” constantly and have to counsel parishioners through major crises of faith. Nobody says it is glamorous; the life of a pastor is often simple in terms of pay and perks and involves a degree of “elbow grease” when mission projects are on the agenda. But almost everybody says it is rewarding and pure; spiritually precious. And this is why it is of the utmost importance to honor pastor retirement with both gratitude and celebration.
