Pastor and Wife Anniversary Poems

Personalized Pastor Appreciation Gift Plaques

Poetry has always been the most delicate and romantic way to express sentiment and true affection. Whether a work of poetry rhymes and pulses with meter, or meanders with beautiful free verse, the message within the words is what really counts. If you’re searching for pastor’s wife anniversary poems, you have a lot of choices. The style and tone can vary greatly, from whimsical to heartfelt. And with poetry, you can mark a pastor’s wife’s wedding anniversary or commemorate her personal anniversary with the church. The sky is the limit.

Settle on a Style

Whether you are choosing a poem already written or a composing one from scratch, you have to decide on a style in advance.

According to the Poetry Foundation, there are dozens of options. Here are a few to consider:

Aubade
A love poem or song welcoming or lamenting the arrival of the dawn. The form originated in medieval France.

Ballad
A popular narrative song passed down orally. In the English tradition, it usually follows a form of rhymed (abcb) quatrains alternating four-stress and three-stress lines. Folk (or traditional) ballads are anonymous and recount tragic, comic, or heroic stories with emphasis on a central dramatic event.

Couplet
A pair of successive rhyming lines, usually of the same length. A couplet is “closed” when the lines form a bounded grammatical unit like a sentence.

Epistle
A letter in verse, usually addressed to a person close to the writer. Its themes may be moral and philosophical, or intimate and sentimental.

Free verse
Nonmetrical, nonrhyming lines that closely follow the natural rhythms of speech. A regular pattern of sound or rhythm may emerge in free-verse lines, but the poet does not adhere to a metrical plan in their composition.

Hymn
A poem praising God or the divine, often sung. In English, the most popular hymns were written between the 17th and 19th centuries.

Pick your Poetry

If you decide to select pastor’s wife anniversary poems that have already been composed, there is plenty of material to choose from. The website my-pastor.com has a lot of options, including this lovely piece by Judy Crowe:

The world was turning upside down
And everything seemed to go wrong.
Then I saw a beautiful smile
On your face when you came along.

My day was cloudy with troubles and woes,
I couldn't seem to get into gear,
Then suddenly before me there you were
And a ray of sunshine seemed to appear.

When you walk into my day
And bring your smile with a glowing face,
The clouds of despair soon disappear
And rays of sunshine take their place.

A smile from heaven it seems to me,
A gift from God to bring me through,
A way of making the day seem brighter
You are my ray of sunshine, a gift from you.

If you’re ready to write your own pastor’s wife anniversary poem, just remember that short and sweet is always more effective than long and unfocused. Try writing just two rhyming couplets  to end up with sincere and memorable.

As you mark your anniversary with this house of God,

Your spiritual journey seems to fly, not plod.

Thank you for your kindness, attention and duty,

We are the lucky ones, sincerely and truly.

This simple exercise will mean more to your pastor’s wife than any store bought gift or greeting card.
