Because children being confirmed are usually between the ages of 11 and 14 years old, it is traditional for a sponsor to be appointed to guide the young person taking this journey. The sponsor’s role is to spiritually walk with the candidate during the preparation for the sacrament. The role does not end at the Confirmation Liturgy; the sponsor helps the young person fulfill his or her baptismal promises after confirmation. For more information on sponsorship, this guidebook has tips and guidelines as well as advice on relationship building.
Confirmation clothing varies by parish so make sure to check with your priest or pastor to see what the requirements are. Each congregation interprets the ceremony slighting differently.
