It’s true, some pastors, youth leaders and outreach coordinators may stay at one church their entire career. Maybe they grew up attending that specific church and simply decided to stay when a life in the ministry came a-calling. But that kind of singular commitment is rare. Many pastors feel called to leave one church and join another when God’s time is right. Which is why celebrating milestones that convey how long a minister has been with a particular congregation is incredibly joyous.
The simplest way to celebrate a milestone like five, 10 or even 25 years at a certain church is to choose a Sunday during the year of honor and plan something special. The Sunday service itself can be adjusted or you can plan a potluck or picnic for later in the day.
If you want to be a little more precise, research the exact date of your pastor’s first sermon at your church. If it happens to fall on or near a Sunday, show a slideshow of old pictures or read scripture from the original sermon. The sky is the limit as far as creativity goes and your ministry honoree will love looking back on such a fond memory.
